Start by naming the question
Are you trying to improve a sound, identify how a file was created, interpret a detector result, or establish permission to release it? These questions need different evidence. A spectrogram, a metadata field, a verification result, and a listening comparison are not substitutes for one another.

Read primary descriptions narrowly
Google’s SynthID documentation describes imperceptible marks in Google-generated media. It does not establish that another company’s music uses the same technology. A watermark claim should identify its scheme and a suitable way to verify it.
C2PA’s FAQ describes signed provenance records and durable associations that can help reconnect a credential with an asset. These records are not an audible defect to equalize away. A file-properties panel does not necessarily expose the complete provenance story.
Record the source and date of a claim. Product features and platform policies can change, while an old screenshot continues circulating without its original context.
Keep evaluation and release records separate
For audio quality, preserve the original and compare matched-level passages. For a detector result, record the exact tool, file, date, and stated meaning of the output. For release permission, retain source records and read the applicable terms. Avoid converting a narrow observation into a broad promise.
